Stories Online

Sponsored by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, Storyline Online is full of great stories read by different famous actors and actresses!

Roald Dahl

Hoodwinked Red Riding Hood

This animated film came out in January 2006 and gives us a good excuse to work on the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" at every level:
The film preview
Roal Dahl's version of the tale
James Thurber's version of the tale (very short and funny)
Tex Avery's cartoon version
James Finn Garner's 1994 version (from Politically Correct Bedtime Stories)
BBC's much more classic animation for younger pupils
Lesson plans from the CNDP on Hans Christian Andersen's tales

Film trailers

Here are 2 interesting sites with trailers of recent films:

Bend It Like Beckham

"Bend It Like Beckham" interweaves the underdog theme of Billy Elliot with Indian coming-of-age films like "East is East" and Monsoon Wedding, adding a healthy dose of MTV flavour in the appropriate spots." ( Film Threat). A few ideas for using this film in the classroom:
  • Film Education activities, a starting point for looking at the film, and a comprehensive Study Guide
  • FoxSearchlight – an interactive site with quizzes and games
  • Pearson GCSE Case Study
  • A short BBC text and audio file (excellent for oral comprehension)
  • A file in "New Standpoints" issue 20 May 2004
  • The film trailer and the script
  • A Curriculum Project lesson plan (teacher’s notes and handouts with background information and exercises)

Billy Elliot

Two e-teachers have already prepared lessons on this film. Take a look at these excellent pages created by Alain Krizic and Josiane Laval, and tested in their classes:
  • Alan Krizic's Word document http://perso.wanadoo.fr/alain.krizic/Docs/Billy_Elliot.doc
  • Josiane Laval's worksheet: http://www.ac-nancy-metz.fr/enseign/languesLP/anglais/billy_elliot.htm

The Caretaker

Harry Potter

http://www.ac-orleans-tours.fr/anglais-liens/SitePedago/krizic/Dobbie/harryp.htm
(+ lien http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/home.asp) et recommande aussi le scéren-cndp

  • New Oliver Twist lesson plan HERE (niveau 3e - 2nde)

Philidelphia

And some ideas for working on AIDS and the film "Philidelphia":
