French cinema magazines

Positif

At Lyon in 1952 a group of movie lovers (non professional) created the magazine Positif just a few months after Cahiers du cinéma. Positif often acted as a counterpoint to Cahier du cinema. For instance a critic of Positif: Gerald Gozlan entitled sarcastically an article “ In Praise of Andre Bazin” (Bazin is of famous critic of Cahiers du cinéma). In the 60’s Positif did not want to have their head office at Paris. The magazine wanted to gather all the parts of France. Positif also did not take part to the Parisian’s vogue. Positif is the first magazine that included interviews of famous directors with their critics. A special feature of the magazine is that all the critics are volunteers, so they are not payed. Nowdays Cahiers du cinema and Positif are no longer opposed. For instance their movie top ten for 2007, 2008 is very similar. The editor-in-chief of the magazine: Michel Ciment is a famous critic well known  newspapers and at the radio.
